Police nab man who fled after taking shower in stranger's home and called 911 | Crime
PORTLAND, Ore. – Just two days after calling 9-1-1 on himself, the man who police say broke into a house to take a shower was rearrested Wednesday on theft, burglary and stolen property charges.
Timothy James Chapek, 24, made national headlines after he made a 9-1-1 call Monday fearing that the owner of the home he had broken into had a gun. Portland police charged him with trespassing but it wasn’t enough to hold him.
Police in Chehalis, Wash. caught up to Chapek just after midnight Wednesday at the town’s Walmart after they received a call of a theft in progress. Police said they arrived to find Chapek in the store’s parking lot attempting to load items into a stolen car.
It hasn’t been a banner week for Chapek. He started Monday at the Washington County Jail because of a probation violation. Hours later police said he broke into that Southwest Portland home. After being charged and released, Chapek skipped his court date on Tuesday, and Beaverton police said he was actually at Kuni BMW stealing a running loaner five-series BMW.
Then he headed north on Interstate 5.
Chapek is now in the Lewis County Jail and is expected to make his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
There is no word on when he’ll be brought back to Oregon to face charges in Portland.
